It will not look like this much longer

A little while ago, this advertisement appeared in my email.

Kinja'd!!!

I especially like the last line, “Book your adventure of 4  nights or more and save.” Hurricane Dorian is scheduled to hit the Orlando area as a class 2 or class 3 storm on Sunday night so the vacation would, indeed, be an “adventure.”

Hey, so what if there is a little hurricane inconvenience – it’s a 20% discount.

For some reason, I cannot edit this post (the option does not even appear) . I meant to say that Dorian is predicted to be a category 2 or category 3 hurricane, not a class 2 or class 3 .

Funny when they use photos like that for Orlando in the middle of the state. I’m not even sure there are any beaches that look like that in FL. Maybe the panhandle.

For Orlando this i s what I think:

The forecasts keep  turning further south. I’m east of lake Okeechobee on the coast in west palm beach.

Probably still cheaper to visit South East México for a week

Sharing something that was offer ed and I too k the bait . A few months ago, Hilton (Hilton Grand Vacations) called me to offer a vacation package.

3 nights 4 days in California resort. For $250.

To be clear,

what they offered: $250 for 3 nights - 4 days. fo r a family of 4.

I decided to probe them further as to what else could they offer me. Being a diamo nd member with over 80 nights stay, so far this year alone, they transferr ed me to another line.

Af ter about 10 minutes, I had signed up for

4 nights 5 days (plus 5th night free as part of the perks) for $299 at C Baldwin, part of the C urio C ollection in H ouston for work. The hotel ty pically goes for $350 / night and my cheapest options in that area are typically $125-140 / night

So I get to stay for $299 in a 5 star hotel vs $800 in a 2 star hotel.

What I got: $299 for a week of stay (valued at $1500 plu s taxes ) or my typically spend of $800.

Now, wai ting for a call from Marriott

PS: I got shitloads of points for a fucking vacation, lol.

Yeah, that shot is pretty much NW FL in a nutshell.

Oh, except they’re not showing 2-3 rows deep of those f*cking blue chairs because the beach services get up at 6am and put all the chairs out there, half of which remain vacant and block everyone else view and walking path for the rest of the day.

I'm on the East coast of Florida for business the last 2 weeks and scheduled to be here until next Friday. I just booked a ticket home tomorrow morning because I'm right in the middle of the cone of uncertainty. My hotel told me yesterday that if an evacuation order was given, they were closing down. OK, then. I'll just leave.

You are right, it does look like the Gulf Coast. Cocoa Beach is near Orlando, and it is nice, but the sand is a little darker.

We are just west of Daytona, and it looks like it will mostly miss us. I hope so. We were hit by Irma and Matthew.

Yes, but for the amusement park crowd, Orlando is a favorite.

We are just west of Daytona, but far enough inland that there have been no evacuations.

You definitely did the right thing. If there is an evacuation, the roads get clogged pretty quickly. I spoke with someone who was stuck in traffic on I-95 during hurricane Matthew.

Stay safe. I grew up in central Florida and lived there for 20 years or so. Since then, I’ve lived in Tallahassee, Jacksonville, the lower Keys, and Melbourne. I totally understand how dangerous it can be.

Thank you. We have a concrete block home and live on a hill , so there is little chance of flooding. Of course, we are getting out of here if they start predicting a category 3 or above direct hit.
